university. [Saturday. 18th April. 2009|11:57 pm]
in light of mr.brinsley's 'hate list' and today's events i have decided to write a list of my own.
this evening, the boiler in the flat i live in on my own in portsmouth broke. for no reason really, all i had done was turn the heating on two or so hours ago and by the time i was ready for bed it was off, excellent (on top of the fact that the boiler is broken, which means i have no heating and no hot water - i haven't had a shower since yesterday and am about to embark on possibly the most stressful few days of my life thus far). this event comes at the end of a very long list of shit things that have happened to me ever since i made the ridiculous decision to come to university in portsmouth.
consequently, because of my bad and feeling sorry for myself mood, i have decided to write all these shit things down in a list here for your enjoyment! aren't you lucky?!

1. boring/complainy housemates in halls in year 1 - never talk to me or attempt to make friends despite various offers from myself - as a result have a hard time first year, trying to forge friendships with others.

2. doggy died in the november of my first year.

3. boyfriend of nearly two years breaks up with me in bad circumstances - following this i spend two weeks in bed at home doing barely anything, lose a stone in weight through stress/illness/depression.

4. at somepoint throughout my first year i had £800 stolen from my account - this admittedly was my own fault and luckily the money was recovered, but still, it was stressful.

5. move into second year house and very soon realise female housemate is a complete slavedriving maniac, and boys complete wimps - lots of tears.

6. get myself involved in the most ridiculous relationship - spend almost entirity of this relationship unhappy and trapped, for various reasons.

7. after exhausting all other options and being completely fucked over by two best friends - i stump for living with (ex-)boyfriend in third year.

8. grandad dies.

9. living with boyfriend turns out to be a HUGE mistake, we break up and boyfriend leaves early january.

10. three days after he lives a sink blockage occurs and water moves between sink and washing machine but never drains away - this takes three days to be fixed.

11. toaster explodes.

12. boilers breaks.

i have also broken two mobile phones and flooded my house at home throughout these three years.

for grandad, see you soon. [Sunday. 14th September. 2008|06:25 pm]
"death is nothing at all. i have only slipped away into the 'next room'. i am i and you are you. whatever we were to each other that we are still. call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used. put no difference into your tone; wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. play, smile, think of me, pray for me. let my name be ever the household word that it always was. let it be spoken without effort, without the ghost of a shadow on it. life means all that it ever meant. it is the same as it ever was; there is absolutely unbroken continuity. what is this death but a negligible accident? why should i be out of mind because i am out of sight? i am waiting for you for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. all is well."

latitude 2008. [Wednesday. 6th August. 2008|02:01 pm]
so last month i went to my first ever festival and had the best time.
i've been meaning to update on it for ages now, and have kind of lost my enthusiasm for a long update, so here's just a quick roundup of who we saw and some other stuff.

bands we saw
friday; heloise & the savoir faire (shite), kyte (good), grammatics (ok), murder by death (good), bearsuit (shite), beth orton (ok/good) - saw her in the crowd watching joanna newsom on sunday, british sea power (excellent), howling bells (excellent), death cab for cutie (FUCKING AMAZING), franz ferdinand (excellent).

saturday; tim minchin (excellent), scott capurro (shite), jon richardson (ok), bill bailey (ok), kategoes (good), johnny flynn (FUCKING AMAZING), elbow (ok), sigur ros (FUCKING AMAZING).

sunday; joanna newsom (FUCKING AMAZING), fields (good), those dancing days (ok), noah and the whale (FUCKING AMAZING), foals (ok/good), glasvegas (excellent), okkervil river (shite), blondie (FUCKING AMAZING), interpol (excellent).

phew.

in other news; i am sick of hospitals. i now have two very poorly grandparents who seem to have taken up permanent residency there and the two-to-four trips i make a week is not only exhausting but emotionally draining.

finally; i hope this little lady wins the mercury prize.

Marie-Flore. [Thursday. 29th November. 2007|05:16 pm]
[i'm listening to |marie-flore, ob.]

This is Marie-Flore. She's a french singer-songwriter.

She's just been signed to my boyfriend daniel's record label (Victrola! Records)
and this is her first single being released by the label.

I think it's pretty stunning stuff, if you'd like a copy (printed on white 7" vinyl - snazzy), let me know and i can probably get one out to you.

I'm well proud of him.
